Work Progresses On The Newtown Primary School

Construction work continues at a steady pace on the Newtown Primary School.

According to officials of the Education Planning Unit of the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development, the project is now 45% complete. The projected completion date is May 2015.

The new Newtown Primary School is funded through a $6 million grant from the People’s Republic of China. The Government of Dominica signed the contract for the official commencement of the project in March 2014.

The school is expected to boast fourteen classrooms and will include a library, science laboratory, art laboratory, and principal’s office among other facilities. Improvements to the roadway, and the construction of a parking lot and hard court are also part of the project.

The new three-storey school will also include an elevator to provide access for physically challenged students.

The facility will accommodate up to three hundred students and seventeen teachers.
